Accessibility
The City of Fairmont is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
The standard we hold to
This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 is the current recommendation from the W3C, and Level AA is the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for web content.
Color contrast is checked against a token-level gate on every build. Headings follow a real document outline. Every interactive control is reachable by keyboard. All imagery carries alternative text or is marked decorative. Forms have proper labels and error messaging.
ADA compliance
The City of Fairmont maintains an ADA Transition Plan that addresses accessibility across public facilities, programs, and services — including this website. The plan is reviewed and updated regularly to identify and remove barriers to access.
Requesting an accommodation
If any content on this site is not usable for you, contact City Hall and we will provide the information in another format — large print, plain text, audio, or read aloud over the phone. We do not require you to explain why.

How we test and what we know about
What we test, and how often
Automated accessibility checks run on every build and block a release on a critical violation. A manual keyboard and screen-reader pass runs before each major content change. Color contrast is verified at the design-token level, not per-page.
Known gaps
Third-party embeds (maps, payment portals, the Citizen Support Center) are not fully under our control. Where an embed cannot meet AA, we provide the same information in an accessible form beside it or offer an alternative path — such as calling City Hall directly.
How to report a problem
Email citygov@fairmont.org with the page address and what went wrong. You can also call (507) 238-9461. We aim to respond within two business days and to remediate critical barriers as quickly as possible.
ADA Transition Plan
The City’s ADA Transition Plan is available for download. It identifies physical and programmatic barriers across City facilities and sets a schedule for addressing them.
